The Fine Print Clause
Steamy
I negotiate risk for a living.
I never become it.
Until a single clause in a billion-dollar merger requires Adrian Vale—CEO, media darling, and the most controlled man I know—to appear engaged.
To me.
The plan is simple: announce it, stabilize investor confidence, dissolve it quietly once the deal closes.
No emotional investment. No private expectations. No crossing lines.
Except Adrian doesn’t treat this like a performance.
He holds my hand like he means it. Kisses me like he’s memorizing me. Stands in front of the board like I’m not a liability—but the future.
And the more real it feels, the more terrified I become.
Because if this implodes, it won’t just be headlines at risk.
It’ll be my credibility. My career. My heart.
I can rewrite the contract.
I can control the optics.
But I’m not sure I can control what happens when Adrian decides he doesn’t want an exit strategy.
And I have to decide if I do.
